Create Sensory Images

Using mental imagery while reading creates a better understanding of the text. Mental scenes are not limited to visual images; they may also include sounds, smells, textures, and tastes. Students learn to engage all of the senses and consequently commit the story more vividly to long-term memory.

The Visualizing Game

The Visualizing Game asks students to create mental images of text and recall them throughout the game. Some of the challenges involve static images and others use serial images—or "movies in the head." There are three levels of increasing challenge designed for children up to fifth grade.
