Ask Questions
When questions are generated by a reader, mental connections are primed. When an answer to a self-generated question arrives, the connection is solidified in a way that passive reading cannot duplicate.
Questioning opens the mind to move beyond simply absorbing unconnected information into the exploration of possibilities, the intrigue of alternate explanations, and the production of more questions. Active readers ask questions before, during, and after reading. They wonder, speculate, and hypothesize.
The Questioning Cube Game
The Questioning Cube Game encourages students to ask questions about short stories or passages of expository prose.
